ENGLISH LESSONS FOR CHINESE SPEAKERS
I am a specialist in teaching Chinese speakers in my Adult English Classes. I speak Mandarin (國語) , so I know the special problems Chinese speakers face when learning English and how to solve them.
I studied Chinese at Yale and Stanford Universities, and later when I lived in Taiwan.
Great English is not very difficult for Chinese speakers. The word order is almost the same, and the simple logical way of making a sentence is the same.
There are some special problems. English Grammar Rules are more complicated than Chinese Grammar Rules. Chinese does not have many tenses like English. It does not have singular and plural like English. Chinese verbs do not change in the “he/she/it” form the way English does.
My English Pronunciation and Accent Classes make English fun and easy for Chinese speakers. In my ESL Classes for Adults, the “R-and-L” problem is very easy. I can teach you that in less than five minutes! I promise!
In my Adult English Classes, you also learn English Presentation Skills. Presentation is very different in English and Chinese. This is not only a language issue. It is also a cultural issue. My long experience in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore make my ESL Classes for Adults special and unique.
English does not have the four tones (四声) like Chinese. All English words only have one tone. But the voice goes up and down in the sentence. Your English sentences must sound natural. This is a question of “rhythm.” Natural fluent English (with the right rhythm) is easy to learn in my Adult English Classes.
HOW OUR ENGLISH LESSONS FOR CHINESE SPEAKERS WORK
Grammar and Vocabulary
Many people ask me, “What text book do you use?” Here is my answer: YOU are the textbook!
In my personal, custom-designed English Lessons for Chinese Speakers, we start where you are in your English, wherever that is. As you speak, I listen to your grammar and find the difficult places.
Because I speak Chinese, I understand WHY you are making certain English grammar mistakes.
The vocabulary you need in English depends on the way you use your English. Do you speak English mostly at work (Business English Lessons)? Do you spend time with new English-speaking friends (English Conversation Lessons)? Do you need help with your writing (English Writing Lessons)? Do you give presentations or speeches (English Presentation Skills and English Speech Lessons)?
In my English Lessons for Chinese Speakers, you will have the vocabulary you need, and the grammar to use it properly.
Conversation and Comprehension
Maybe you have good English grammar and a good English vocabulary. The next question is: How is your Pronunciation (English Pronunciation Lessons)?
If you have a problem with the “R” and “L,” I have a personal technique to teach that in less than five minutes!
Is your English easy to understand? Do you say your words correctly? Is the rhythm natural sounding? The rhythm of English is very different from the rhythm of Chinese.
These are all things you cannot learn from books. (A secret: It is always obvious when Chinese speakers learned their English from books or from foreign teachers! Their English does not sound natural!)
For excellent, natural English, you need a personal English teacher who is a native speaker. A personal American English teacher raises your English to the next level!
I promise you, it will be effective – and fun!
GREAT ENGLISH TIPS TO REMEMBER:
1) Be sure to speak slowly! Many students speak much too fast! It is difficult to understand you when you speak too fast. Also, you do not have time to think about your vocabulary and the fundamentals of English grammar. Slow down! Speaking is not a race! LOL!
2) Be sure to say every letter and every syllable. In my Adult English Classes, you will learn how to give the correct “weight” to each letter and each syllable in a word. This will make your English clear and beautiful.
3) Remember this: The best English is the most simple English! You will always sound good with simple, short sentences. The best English is the clearest English.
4) Your two ears are your best teachers! Listen to everyone around you. The world is full of teachers. If people use words or expressions you do not understand, write them down and bring them to your next Adult English Class.
5) Relax and enjoy your English. A conversation in English is not a competition. Everybody has a different style. You have your own style. You could call it the “flavor” of your native language. It can make your English unique and beautiful.
