ENGLISH LESSONS FOR FRENCH SPEAKERS
I am a specialist in teaching French Speakers (Francophones) in my Adult English Classes. I speak French fluently.
For Francophones, excellent English is not difficult! English grammar rules are different from French grammar rules, but the differences are easy to learn.
The problems French speakers have in English are things that require a teacher.
There is one sound that is difficult for Francophones: TH. It is easy! I can teach that in two minutes! I promise!
Another problem is which syllable receives the emphasis. In French, “en principe,” the emphasis is always on the last syllable in the word (though in speaking, people sometimes do variations for effect). In English, the emphasis can be on any syllable. In my English Classes for Adults (ESL Classes for Adults), you will learn the right way.
There is another common problem for French speakers: Putting the “s” at the end of the “he/she/it” form. (In French, the “s” is there, but it is not pronounced.) This “little” point immediately upgrades your English!
HOW OUR ENGLISH LESSONS FOR FRENCH SPEAKERS WORK
Grammar and Vocabulary
Many people ask me, “What text book do you use?” Here is my answer: YOU are the textbook!
In my personal, custom-designed English Lessons for Francophones, we start where you are in your English, wherever that is. As you speak, I listen to your grammar and find the difficult places.
The vocabulary you need in English depends on the way you use your English. Do you speak English mostly at work (Business English Lessons)? Do you spend time with new English-speaking friends (English Conversation Lessons)? Do you need help with your writing (English Writing Lessons)? Do you give presentations or speeches (English Presentation Skills and English Speech Lessons)?
There are many words in French that are almost the same in English. We concentrate on those to make sure you know the rules for converting a French word into English.
In my English Lessons for French Speakers, I make sure you have the vocabulary you need, and the grammar to use it properly.
Conversation and Comprehension
Maybe you have good English grammar and a good English vocabulary. The next question is: How is your Pronunciation (English Pronunciation Lessons)?
If you want to use the words in French that are similar to English, you must be able to pronounce them correctly. For francophones, which syllable to place the stress is often a problem. I will help you with that.
Is your English easy to understand? Do you say your words correctly? Is the rhythm natural sounding?
These are all things you cannot learn from books. For these, you need a personal English teacher. A personal American English teacher raises your English to the next level!
I promise you, it will be effective – and fun!
GREAT ENGLISH TIPS TO REMEMBER:
1) Be sure to speak slowly! Many students speak much too fast! It is difficult to understand you when you speak too fast. Also, you do not have time to think about your vocabulary and the fundamentals of English grammar. Slow down! Speaking is not a race! LOL!
2) Be sure to say every letter and every syllable. In my Adult English Classes, you will learn how to give the correct “weight” to each letter and each syllable in a word. This will make your English clear and beautiful.
3) Remember this: The best English is the most simple English! You will always sound good with simple, short sentences. The best English is the clearest English.
4) Your two ears are your best teachers! Listen to everyone around you. The world is full of teachers. If people use words or expressions you do not understand, write them down and bring them to your next Adult English Class.
5) Relax and enjoy your English. A conversation in English is not a competition. Everybody has a different style. You have your own style. You could call it the “flavor” of your native language. It can make your English unique and beautiful.
