RÉSUMÉ WRITING SERVICES

Many students use my Adult English Classes to help write their résumés (also called C.V.’s).  I am an expert in writing them.  You will learn this art when we work together.

I promise you:  You have more and better experience than you realize!

Writing a good résumé (C.V.) is an art. It is an art that has some important rules.  The first rule is this:  You must be absolutely 100% truthful in everything you say!  Although you must always be truthful, this is not just a list.  It is a sales document!  The art of résumés is to arrange things in the way that gives the impression you want.  It is like flower arranging!

HOW OUR RÉSUMÉ WRITING SERVICES WORK

Basic Résumé Writing Structure

In my Résumé Writing Services, you are the topic – more than ever.

We begin with the résumé you are currently using.  (If you do not have a résumé, we will start from the beginning.)  Then I interview you about other things you have done in your life.  Everyone has more valuable skills than they realize.  I promise you!

We design your résumé and its categories for the job, for the grant, for the admissions procedure or other situations you need.  Every résumé need is different, just as every person is different.

A résumé must be carefully edited.  For this, I use my 23 years as an editor at The New York TimesEverything must be lined up properly.  There is a hierarchy of arranging the information that needs a logic of its own.  I am one of the world’s experts in this skill and art.

Fitting the Résumé to the Situation

Zoom is the perfect way to write a résumé with students in my Résumé Writing Services.  It is even better than working in person!  Why?  Because we can both see the same screen while we are working.

Most students who come for my Résumé Writing Services need more than one résumé.  The categories change depending on what you need this document for.

In a way, a résumé is like an interview on paper!  Just as in my Interview Prep Coaching, you will learn how to show yourself to the world in the most effective and most appropriate way.

Résumé Writing is not only valuable.  It is also fun!  When you read your own résumé, you will even surprise yourself!  You will see your life and your achievements more clearly than ever before.

IMPORTANT RÉSUMÉ TIPS:

  • When we write your résumé together in my Adult English Classes, be sure to tell me everything you have ever done, even if you do not think it is relevant.  It probably is relevant if you present it in the right way.  Did you work in a restaurant?  You can call that “Restaurant Work.”  Or you can call it “Customer Service.”  It is Customer Service.  It is relevant to any Customer Service or Client Service job you are applying for.  There are many examples of this.  Most people omit the most interesting parts of their experience.  We start with everything.

  • This next point is obvious, but many people in my Online ESL Classes for Adults forget it:  Do you speak a foreign language?  Are you bilingual?  This is a HUGE plus!  Put it at the top of your résumé!

  • It makes no difference if a job was paid or an internship or a college job or volunteer work.  If you did the work, you did the work. It is valid.

  • If a job had a title that you did not like, do not list the title.  List all the things you did without the title, if that looks better.

  • You do not need to list every job in time order (chronologically).  You can group jobs under topic or area.  Remember, this is a sales document.  You want to give the impression that will help you the most.

I have many, many more Résumé Tips.  I teach them in my Résumé Writing Services.
